Tim Cook Biography 

Tim Cook is an American business executive and industrial engineer from Alabama. He is the Chief Executive Officer of Apple Inc. and had served as the company’s Chief Operating Officer previously under its founder Steve Jobs. Cook joined Apple as a senior vice president for worldwide operations in March 1998 and then became the Executive Vice President for worldwide sales and operations.

On August 24, 2011, Cook was made the company’s Chief Executive. This was before Jobs’ death in October of that year. As Apple’s CEO, he has championed for the political reformation of international and domestic surveillance, cybersecurity, corporate taxation, American manufacturing, and environmental preservation.

He became the first Chief Executive of a Fortune 500 company to publicly announce that he is gay in 2014. He is also on the boards of directors of companies like Nike, Inc., the National Football Foundation, and is a trustee of Duke University.

In March 2015, he said he intends to donate his entire stock fortune to charity. The University of Oxford published research and in it, Cook’s leadership style was characterized as being paradigmatic of founder centrism. He was promoted to lead operations in January 2007 and in 2009 served as Chief Executive as Steve Jobs was away on a leave of absence for health-related issues. 

In January 2011, Jobs requested a third medical leave of absence which was approved by Apple’s board of directors. This left Cook in charge of most of Apple’s day-to-day operations, while Jobs made most major decisions. On 24th August 2011, Tim Cook was named as Apple’s Chief Executive Officer after Jobs resigned as the CEO to become the chairman of the board. However, on October 5, 2011, six weeks later, Jobs passed on as a result of complications from pancreatic cancer. 

Cook made his first major changes to the company’s executive team on October 29, 2012. These changes occurred after the third quarter of the fiscal year when revenues and profits grew less than predicted.

In May 2013, he said that his leadership at Apple focuses on people, strategy, and execution. Going on to explain, he said, “If you get those three right the world is a great place.” The incorporated company has also increased its donations to charity since Cook took over from Steve Jobs. In 2013, Lisa Jackson, formerly the head of the Environmental Protection Agency, was hired by Cook to assist Apple with the development of its renewable energy activities.
